Going back to Europe: Melbourne

Making plum jam
Once again, the warm welcome we recieved in Melbourne touched us a lot. Mark and Carole opened their door to us, prepared a room just for us and gave us all the tips and advice they could. We had really nice moments together, cooking, chatting, getting to know eachother and exchanging experiences. They helped us to discover Melbourne.

At first, I had the impression of being in the UK and this strange feeling of being back home too early. Our first days were COOOOLD (we had just sent all our warm clothes back home), everything is soo clean, the sign posts are the same, they drive on the left, they speak english (yes the accent is different but still...). I needed a few days to get back on my feet and recover from jetlag and the culture chock coming from South America. Then we started discovering the cool stuff about Melbourne. The grafitis, the art scene and the nice places to have a coffee make the city (which feels like a town) a nice place to be.

One day, sitting having our lunch in a park we thought of moving to Melbourne....what do you guys think???

People use their bikes quite a bit, we had a try...I fell off mine (only got scared...and that made Pau laugh...he says I am the worse bike rider....I know someone in the world that ride her bike with the handles back to front!!!)

We even went to  the Tennis Autralian open on a ground court ticket. We were lucky to see Tsonga and Gael Monfils, Malisse, Kutsi, Federer and Nadal. Aussie crowd is CRAZY...they scream their heads off during the points, they do waves, they comment. Its great! It feels like less of a elite sport than in England.
It was defenetly worth it, we spent a nice HOT day and even got free soap and desodorants on one of these publicity stalls which will have saved us some money. Of course we had to queue, but what the hell, when you travel, you end up looking for the free stuff...we even queued to get a free tiny peace of disgursting chocolate... ha ha

Meeting Alexandra after all these years was really amazing and her kindness is over anything I could expect. Thanks Ali and hopefully will spend more time with you before we leave the country

We spend most of the rest of the week organising our road trip to the west part the country with Caro, an ex workmate from Brussels. The first days of trip organisation were hard, there is sooo much to see in this country, SO much and it is not cheap...organising a trip with a low budget and wanting to see everything is a challenge. We went to the library (and fell asleep on the lonely planet...jetlag consequences), we bought  a computer, checked the internet, skyped Caro in Sydney about a hundred times. Once things were almost organised, I started getting really excited. Caro and I said we would meet up in Australia but it these kind of things you say knowing that it might not happen....but it did. We met in Perth aiport and when I saw her little face pop out from the door, I thought, woaw, this is strange!
