Tajjjjjj

Agra is not the nicest city of India, but with the Taj and the Fort it is worth a visit. We were doubting till the last moment to go to Agra or not. Cat, tired of travelling would have skipped it but Pau was determined to go. And having talked to people, we realised that if you do not go on your first visit to India, you never go....so Pau was very nice to Cat (buying her cakes, getting up to switch the light off at night and so on...) and Pau convinced Cat to go.....Cat  found the necessary energy and let Pau take her to the Tajjjjj....

After the death of his beloved wife while giving birth to their14th son, the king was so sad that he decided to build this tomb for his wife! Eight years after the Taj was finished the prince fought against his father in order to take over the throne. He locked up his own father in a luxiourious palace within the Agra Fort. The son, (for his good conscience we guess), made sure his father could see the Taj Mahal from his palace-prison. The king was also burried in the Taj Majal next to his beloved wife.

Agra is not a particularly glamorous place but the Taj deserves the visit. It is, according to Pau, the most beautiful building in the world. Cat likes the story of these crazy indian rich men. we remembered the Pavillion in Brighton and its similar story...she wonders what Pau is going to build for her...and hopes he starts it before she dies!!!

The amount of detail and the stone and marble work is amazing!
From far away, it looks like a big white building. As you get closer, you start to appreciate the details and the different pieces of the marble with its different levels of white. The symmetry is everywhere, even in the side buildings or in the gardens.
