Trekking in the Himalayas

Trekking in the Himalayas was kind of a big decision for us. When we left Europe almost 9 months ago, we were not feeling physically very well. We felt weak. Then we went to Huaraz to see Lot and Laurens and we only did a small day trek in the mountains because altitude was affecting us and our bodies were still too weak.

9 months later, we feel so much better. After stepping back from our hectic european lives, after taking time to be together, to listen to ourselves and our bodies, after 2 months of tibetan medecine, we felt better but how would our bodies would react to 5000 meters altitude? And once we were on the trek, we knew that the only way to get back was walking. The villages are not accessible by road, only footpaths. We took the chance and organised ourselves in the way that we would have more time than what agencies and guides give their groups. Basically, we took it easy! That seems like the main thing we learned during these months....there is no reason and no benefit to rush things!!!

And I can tell you walking in the Himalayas is wonderfull! Amazing. The air is pure and dry. The landscape dramatic, harsh, rough but buitifull. Imagine walking during 3 hours on dry rock and earth, then seing the first green patched of a village. Every green field suprised us in this rocky desert. Then when I saw blooming flowers, I almost cryed. Nature is magic, Mother Nature is powerfull.

at the top. 5000 meters. How do we look?
On the third day, we had to go up and pass the 5000 meters point....it was hard, yes, but we walked so slowly, one step after the other, stopped to watch the marmots and eventually we got at the top. And we were so happy (and breathless!!!) the views were once again so rewarding. After that day, we were so tired but our bodies responded really positively. Sometimes, in tougher moments of our world tour (yes there are some!) I wondered why we decided to go away on this long trip....on days like these, I remember that it was defenetly the best decision we made.

I keep forgetting how good I feel when in the mountains. Maybe in a previous life, I was one of these...I do have the curly hair!!!

Anyway, not much more words can translate these moments. The sceneries and the people. We stayed in homestays and every single person was kind, helpfull and welcoming. I will particularly remember our last night in Rumback village where our host allowed me to help her to make momos (I was happy I had learned in Daramshala, that way, she found me pretty quick...even though I made one, while she made 8!!!). We chatted about weddings and husbands and kids! Normal women chats! It was funny!
